Donald Francis Tovey's Essays in Musical Analysis, Volume V,
still has its price of three pounds written in pencil inside the flyleaf,
the peculiar L-shaped pound sign of the bookseller winding around
like a jealous dragon ready to spew the musty yellow plume that
hangs like a cloud within every used book shop I have loved.
I breathe deeply, remember, and put the book back on my shelf.
Oh, those bookshops we have loved. By chance, I watched 84 Charing Cross Road again last evening. I'll be looking for that jealous dragon!
ReplyDeleteI have found a hidden gem in my new library - they have a book store/cafe. While I will not see dragons... I do find wonderful books for my grandson... and I occasionally scoop one up for me!
